Welcome to Kocurek Elementary! I hope that you feel the same excitement and love for learning that everyone in the koala family feels at Kocurek. Kocurek Elementary is a South Austin campus which is set apart by its rich history and long standing traditions. As a school family we work daily to honor the past and explode into the future on a shared vision that promotes collaboration, communication and ensures academic success for all Kocurek students. Our mission at Kocurek is to listen to the voices of the students, staff and families and gain a better understanding of what drives the success of the students, motivates and influences the learning and cultivates the relationships with our community. Together with continued hard work and dedication, Kocurek Elementary will become a campus known for its academic excellence for all students as well as a school that cultivates positive relationships and prepares the whole child for college, career and life in the 21st century. Joining the koala family has been a dream come true! I am truly grateful for the opportunity to grow with your beautiful community this year as the Assistant Principal of Willie Kocurek Elementary. I joined Austin ISD as a second grade teacher back in 2008 under the leadership of the one and only Heather Parmelee! Since then, I have taught in various bilingual or dual language classrooms in schools throughout Austin and Plano ISD. I have also served as a Curriculum Specialist and Literacy Coach which has awakened my passion to support teaching and learning within a greater school community by working collaboratively with teachers to implement new, research based practices that focuses on both student academics and their social and emotional learning. I look forward to working with the exceptional staff at Kocurek to maximize the potential of each of our students!
